Custom Controls Update for Visual Studio/TFS 2012

Jul 19, 2012 at 3:00 PM

I am using the VS2012 RC and MTM2012 RC, and your controls do not work for them. I am going to try to upgrade the solution and work from there, but do you have any plans for supporting 2012? I have to open my newly created defects in TSWA or VS2010 to set those fields for now.

I'm in the same boat as dtreth.  We're planning our upgrade to TFS 2012 and this is one of the hurdles we need to clear prior to that upgrade.  Any update that anyone could share would be appreciated!

Fantastic,  if you need any kind of beta testers please feel free to give me a shout!

Thanks for the update!

I would also be happy to test this out -- at least the MultiValueControl.

Any updates on the release of the MultiValueControl for TFS 2012?

Sorry for the late response, I will try to submit an update this week.

It would help us a lot, if this control can be updated to work with VSTS 2012. Thank you, Alex.

I am waiting for the updates. Thanks,

No worries. Any chance we could see a release of the MultiValueControl for Web Access by early next week?

It would be great indeed if a release could be made available for the MultiValueControl. We really could use this one...

Keep up the good work!

Already installed the new version of the MultiValueControl for TFS 2012 and it works just great in VS 2012. Thanks!

Are there any plans for extension for the Web Access part? Can we expect these controls to be working in the Web Access side of TFS 2012? Are you planning to make a zip file available that can be uploaded as a Web Access Extension in the TFS Web Access?

Already tried setting up this control myself for the MultiValue control but I'm still encountering some issues currently (probably jquery related). In case I succeed in producing something that's working and stable I'll try to submit it...

I've created a 1.1.0.0 release with the TFS 2012 compatible version of the existing controls. I hope this will unblock some of you from upgrading to 2012!

Great to hear the updated control works for you!

My ideas for a new release would be to add a few controls and to make some controls available as web controls as well.

If you get the MultiValue control working for the TFS 2012 web client do submit it and we can add that to the next release.

Controls work with VSTS 2012. Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think Microsoft needs to purchase/license your product....just saying :)

Has anyone been able to get this to work in the web client? Thanks

Has anyone looked into this?

Yes, I have used the info on this blog from Serkan during the implementation. I also have used the following jquery widget from Eric:

Many thanks to both!

Multivalue control for TWA 2012 is working now. Still busy testing it more in depth, but I can make it available already....

I'm not a project member so I'll upload it as a patch. Feel free to provide me any feedback you might have.

Thanks this worked, one hiccup I have on one work item 2 multi value fields main and a sub, it works on the main but not the sub it's just a oddly shaped text field now but without the previous error though. Way more than I had this morning so thank you very much!

Yes, that was a known issue for version 1.0.0 as was also mentioned in the notes on the 'patches' page.

A new version 1.0.1 is now available which also fixes this issue. You can find in in the patches page on this site:

http://witcustomcontrols.codeplex.com/SourceControl/list/patches

I hope this will also be made available in the source control tree which makes it easier to work on in the future and track changes properly. I've no rights to do this yet, but if anybody can provide me the required access I'll gladly add it to the source control tree.

Feel free to send any feedback in case you should still encounter some issues.

It worked once I changed my second field definition, here is the senerio and not sure why

First field "Functional.Category"

Second field "Functional.Sub.Category"

Second field is broken same as before verified all settings in the definition and control type, created a new field called Sub.Category same selections same definition settings. Now both fields work as expected.

Thank you for this!

Just posted version 1.0.3 of the web version of the multivaluecontrol in the patches section:

http://witcustomcontrols.codeplex.com/SourceControl/list/patches

This should solve issues with the control not displaying correctly in all places and the transparency issue.

Hope this helps....

I've just merged this patch with the current source and created a 1.1.1.0 release:

Thanks for the contribution!

Do you have any chance of detecting the current Visual Studio theme? I am currently running VS 2012 with the dark theme and the custom control is the only white thing in the otherwise black work item dialog.

Thanks

It seems to do the same as the rest of the HTML windows

Hi there!

I love the MultiValueControl and it works perfectly in Visual Studio, thank you very much! In TFS Web access, it is not working in IE8 (on Windows XP). It works flawlessly in IE9, and it also works in FireFox, but not in IE8. Is anyone else seeing this issue? I am running 1.1.1.0 in TFS 11.

Hi.

I'm new in TFS - just at the evaluation stage. So my question might be stupid... Nevertheless.

I installed 1.1.1.0 release both on clinet computer and on TFS server computer by executing WitCustomControlSetup2012.msi.

In VS2012 it works well, but in TWA it tells "Cannot create work item control of type "MultiValueControl"". Are there some actions which should be done besides executing WitCustomControlSetup2012 on the server to make it operational in TWA?

Hi again. Looks like i found solution. I downloaded extension v.1.0.3 from here: http://witcustomcontrols.codeplex.com/sourcecontrol/list/patches?ViewAll=true&ProjectName=witcustomcontrols, installed and enabled it and and now it works in TWA.

Both the client-side and the web client installers are both in the 1.1.1.0 release but you need to install the web access.

The process is documented in the release notes but it's not so easily discoverable: http://witcustomcontrols.codeplex.com/releases/view/99616.

I will try to review the documentation and see if we can improve this a bit.
